Using Your Own Photos within a Cooliris Stack
The number one request that I receive for my Cooliris Stacks Plugin is “How do I get my own hosted pictures inside the Cooliris Wall?” The following tutorial will answers just that!
Required Software
For today’s tutorial, you will need to make sure you download the following two files.
- Piclens Publisher Application – The freeware application used to generate the media rss feed. Please download and install the application.
- Cross-Domain XML configuration file – The configuration file that allows the flash plugin to communicate to Cooliris.
- You will also need to ensure that you have the Cooliris Stack v1.3 or greater. Version 1.3 was released on Sept 1, 2009. You may use the same download link that was emailed to you when you purchased the stack to obtain the latest version.
Tutorial Outline
Here is an outline of the steps that we will be following during the video tutorial below.
- Find the photos that you will want to show within your Cooliris wall.
- Import the desired photos into the PicLens Publisher Application via the “Add Images” button.
- Export the PicLens configuration to a folder using the “Export Folder” button.
- Upload the exported PicLens folder to your webserver (probably ftp).
- Upload the crossdomain.xml file to the top level directory of your website.
- (Example: http://mydomain.com/crossdomain.xml)
- Copy the url for the photos.rss file that was uploaded within the piclens folder.
- Configure your Cooliris Stack with the URL to the photos.rss file.
